Area Attractions
We think we live in one of the most beautiful areas of the United States and when you come to visit with us, we believe that you will concur. Rolling farmland, distant rural views, excellent roads (every day of the year), distinct seasons, a plethora of cultural events (many of them free), small schools of which we have reason to be proud, access to colleges and universities, surprisingly few insects, very low crime, and, above all, friendly and helpful people. You will find that we are pretty much middle class out here. Yes, there are some rich and poor, but we all live together, not separately. That means no developments, no condos and no track homes. MacMansions are few and you won't find cornfields which now grow "little boxes". There is good fishing and hunting and the US's largest park, the Adirondacks, is literally within sight, yet we can reach an urban area in less than an hour, often far less, from anywhere we service.
This is not meant to be a complete or exhaustive list. We have not even mentioned the many festivals and activities that the towns and villages host each year. There are many golf courses and the Erie Canal Rail/Trail and the scenic Mohawk river runs through both Herkimer and Montgomery counties. It is a designated Natural Landmark, administered by the National Park Service. All are within a half hour's drive or less. You will find much here to keep you active. Two urban areas, Albany and Utica/Rome, are an hour's drive. Amsterdam, Schenectady, Rennsalear, and Utica have passenger train stations.
