Montgomery County -
The Mohawk River and several locks go through its center - take a boat to Chicago or to the Atlantic from here, or just go fishing or waterskiing. There are x-c skiing, snowmobiling, hiking and horse trails and we have several State Forests for recreation. There are 7 Erie Canal Locks, a variety of waterfalls on tributaries to the Mohawk and Schoharie Rivers, both of which go through the county
The Bike Path (connects Buffalo with Albany). There are several farmer’s markets, many dining & drinking opportunities, + marinas and ample launch sites along the Mohawk. “The Noses” are a natural landmark of geographic significance. We have 2 Catholic Shrines, several orchards and "pick your own" berry places. Throughout the County are many farms including 3 large Amish communities. Montgomery County has one of the US's highest percentages of Amish in its population. We boast 3 golf courses, I 90 (The NY Thruway), 2 choral groups, 2 Diamond (quartzite) Mines, and the Ft. Plain/Canajoharie drama group. You'll find a large variety of churches, a community college, and ample hunting and fishing.
